WASTED

The greatest love of all
Her voice soared to the heights
is easy to achieve
Her mind plummeted to the depths
Learning to love yourself
               And in between--the wasteland
is the greatest love of all...

  1. I grew up in the world of music, travel but much smaller venues. I survived, my brother recently fell victim in the wasteland

  2. Short, succinct and to the point, and very touching, too.

  4. NENE,
Thanks for your comment. My condolences.

    EVELYN,
Who do you think might be next?

    TERI,
Thanks, and good to hear from you.

    BRIAN,
The most ironic song. It didn't look like she could do it.

    OTHER MARY,
In WHITNEY'S OWN WORDS--from a 2002 interview with Diane Sawyer:
"Nobody makes me do what I don't want to do...the biggest devil is me."

  5. I have never cottoned to the phrase "hot mess," but in her case...

  7. So true and sad. Now will come all of the tributes. Why can't we celebrate people when they are here and alive? Maybe then they wouldn't do such self-destructive things.

  11. Perfect mix of that particular song and that particular woman. My brother, nephew, daughter, mom--all succombed to that same demon of self-loathing fed by something else.

The whole thing makes me ineffably sad and, yes, angry. Glad I stumbled into your blog here.

  12. True words, Timo. Those wax wings won't melt if you don't fly directly into the sun.

  18. It's so sad how the star machine seems to chew up and spit out so much wonderful talent.
