The story has been told before...
our intrepid host stops the film
described as a dream of dark
and troubled things
for lively discussion with experts.
Essential questions we ask about life
while confronting truths
that didn't fit in with our holiday schedules.
When all hell breaks loose
as the Reptilians in the balcony
begin to shout: Bring on the crazy cat clips!
A hush falls over the assemblage
as the Lizard King's voice
reverberates through the hall:
Life, as you know it, is a dirty fairy tale...bittersweet at best...when our time comes, we'll drive electric cars, support compassionate causes, abolish pay toilets, and live in elaborate
communal herpetariums!
communal herpetariums!
You grieve for irretrievable things
your whole lives long
then wax philosophical
uselessly
in a joint like this
when that's really the long
and the short of it
Then slowly, one by one,
as the realization sinks in,
the peeps begin to rise
and file out of the theater
in a sad and dejected looking way
as a series of crazy cat videos
seemingly endless
careen across the screen
for those still insisting upon
their full money's worth.
It's easier to get into faux philosophical debates and watch crazy cat videos rather than deal with pesky truths. That's why Facebook was invented.
ReplyDeleteFacebook is one big repository of "alternative facts"--lol Thanks, Rommy!
DeleteOne can only hope that not everyone would be distracted by cats...
ReplyDeleteWe need to watch to get prepared for the coming CAT-ASTROPHY :)
DeleteWe are definitely not getting our money's worth these days. But the Reptilians are raking it in! I always love reading you, Tim.
ReplyDeleteAnd I always love hearing from you, Sherry!
DeleteI feel that cat videos numb me to the point that I can survive reality.
ReplyDeleteThat is their main purpose--lol
DeleteI like cat videos, but prefer their numbing in the privacy of my seclusion.
ReplyDeleteI understand...crazy cat videos can be a highly personal and emotional experience!
DeleteDon't need cat videos cuz I have Theo ... Don't need to watch TED talks essential questions and answers cuz I have Theo ... Don't need to shiver in this emotional ice age social media circus cuz I have Theo ... Smiles and purrs, AZ friend ... Love, cat.
ReplyDeleteThose "cat" videos would be of U anyway...so let's watch them :)
DeleteI grieve for irretrievable things....there are too many of them
ReplyDeletea movie that I don't fall asleep in
new literature that I don't fall asleep on
properly marinated sicilian olives
real french mayonnaise
brown paper parcels
people who like to daydream
drink tea talk and smell the roses
are some of the many
"These are a few of my favorite things." Hey, I could have written that...if I just had those things, I think I'd be happy. Simple pleasures. Is that too much to ask???
DeleteSigh.. I believe we do 'grieve for irretrievable things' in life.. sometimes its hard to let go.. but we must! Beautifully penned.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing harder in life than Letting go. Thank you, Sanaa.
Deletefor those still insisting upon
ReplyDeletetheir full money's worth.
Life is supposed to be taken as it comes and one is not expected to demand but to adjust accordingly! Very true Timoteo!
