THE LAST LAUGH

For One Shot Wednesday

You've come a long way
baby
from the bustle
to the thong

While you're thinking chic
we're thinking CHEEK
but what's been lost
is a certain mystique
that made grandpa
stay with grandma
for half a century
so entranced by finally laying
eyes upon that which had been concealed
for so long that he never got over it

But now
with nothing left to the imagination
could it be that men will find
that we are REALLY more attracted to your mind?

  1. You could be exactly right. I had to smile. We've lost something with the vanished mystery, I think. And gained something else. Good poem.

  2. Fabulous One Shot...love hearing that male point of view on this. Nothing like a bit of old fashioned modesty...the world has become too sexual that there is not much left to the imagination!

  6. Oh good one, "from the bustle to the thong"........... sadly mystique has been lost. I remember how modest my grandma was and yes, they were married over sixty years, till death.
    Good poem - well done!

  7. GLYNN,
We always prefer what is mysterious--and women are the greatest mystery of all!

    SUZICATE,
And it can be so good if we use a little imagination, no?

    GABRIELA,
It's just like you knew what you were doing! :)

    BRIAN,
    Thanks...the pendulum always swings.

    CINDY,
Especially if it's dirty! ha ha.

  11. forbid the saying, "wise men think alike and fools seldom differ"....i too believe, men or women, mind always wins over matter, Tim....and more so with age :)

(but age itself as Mark Twain said is "an issue of mind over matter; if you don't mind. it doesn't matter" -- SO make no conclusions :)

That was nice,Tim...and your response to Cindy confirms :)

  14. SHERRY,
What's been lost seems to be a sense of loyalty and commitment.

    DUSTUS,
We'll never know the answer to that question 'cause men are good at faking it...no, not in the same way that women fake it! ;)

    DOUG,
    The voice of experience!

    BEN,
    Thanks, dude!

    TERESA,
Men just think that they want "in your face" sexuality (Madonna's, Britney's, Lady GaGa's stock in trade) but that gets old...we'll pick the mysterious woman every time.

    MRS. MEDIOCRITY,
I know, it seems too good to be true!

    DEVIKA,
Yes, I like that Mark Twain saying! And many of us show it doesn't matter as we get older...ha ha.
By the way, I went right to Cindy's blog a few minutes ago--no trouble.
    Love,
    T.

  16. DEVIKA,
Best thing to do is to bookmark your favorite sites, then click on the bookmark and it takes you right there, bypassing all of that red tape.

  21. ANONYMOUS,
Can you give me a clue as to your identity? Are you bigger than a breadbox?

    ERIC,
    Much appreciated!

    SCOTT,
And so much of humor is just that!

  24. Nice one shot. I actually do value the mind more than the body. Love and Light, Sender

  25. Funny, in some ways, the sense of loyalty and commitment disappeared when people began to marry for love rather than out of duty. But that doesn't mean I think all marriages should last. I don't think my grandfather treated my grandmother particularly well (their marriage was arranged), so maybe it shouldn't have been, although it was a good working relationship and did last until my grandfather died. I think there is give and take with every option.

I am the opposite of Lorraine. No curves, just sharp angles. But I'm strong for my size!

  26. love mind and how it works its magic more than body.
    enjoy knowing your question.
    your conclusion is beautiful.

  27. SENDERUP,
Always good to hear from you!

    KOBICO,
I think you hit the nail on the head with your comparison of love and duty (you have a great analytical mind). In the old days, couples took their commitments seriously, and so they stayed together, even if they were't ecstatically happy with each other. If you marry for love, that can be fleeting, so there had better be a strong friendship component to the relationship as well, as that seems to be what keeps people together more than anything else.

About those angles...from my angle, they look pretty good!

    JINGLE,
    Thanks so much for that!
