CARRY ON

There are places
in my mind
I just won't go to
as having been there once
is enough for a lifetime

I've no need to relive
every misdeed
or stupid mistake

I'll wait to have all that
read back to me
at the gates
of either heaven
or hell

  1. There are things you only do once... they say that only fools do the same thing twice expecting different results.

    1. Often we do the same things expecting the SAME results, and that's why we keep doing it!

  3. I think my subconcious is doing my life review right now. I keep remembering unawakened things i did and said and can frequently be heard hissing at myself: "stupid! Stupid! Stupid!" Doing a life review at the end will be over kill, and i rather dread it, lol.

  4. Einstein said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. You mos def are not insane. Things we have done in our past. The ending of this is excellent.

    1. Thank you, Toni. Doing them the first time in the flesh is one thing, but reliving them in your mind can be a never ending punishment.

A lot of folk who have had "interesting" lives have experienced hell here already... so I'm expecting that with the new found grace humility and contrition that comes with ageing you'll end up with a halo, wings and a harp:)

    1. Best wishes to you too! (I'll start taking harp lessons)

  6. Thoughts of all one's past mistakes stuck on repeat sounds like a special sort of hell indeed. But at least there's some comfort in knowing that lessons have been learned, and (hopefully) those mistakes won't be repeated.

    1. Life is like the film Groundhog Day...each day we have another chance to do better and eventually get it right.

  7. I'd rather not have a life review. It would be better to just move on with a clean slate

    1. Sure would. All we gotta do is figure out how to go back and clean up that slate from yesterday.

  8. Yes, life is like Groundhog Day, learning from our mistakes and hopefully making things right again. I hope so...

    1. Life is like the marathon runner who knows he's hopelessly behind because he was too slow at the beginning, but he'll fight through the wind and the rain and the stray dogs nipping at his heels because he'll take some solace in just finishing the race.

    1. Exactly. What's done is done, and the cat licked up that spilled milk a long time ago.

  12. This is a state of mind with which I'm familiar. You're doing the only thing, writing it down yourself - in poetry, short stories, whatever works for you. It puts you in charge rather than the guys at the gates of heaven and hell!

    1. Nietzsche had this crazy notion that we go back and live the same lifetime over again. I sure hope it's a crazy notion, anyhow.
