the sports talk guy
on the radio
has become a champion
of sensitivity
to women's issues
as if he never spent
a night out boozin' and laughin'
it up with the boys--
as if he never sat
in a locker room
and traded those jokes before
So many seem so shamefully shammy these days, assuming we're too dull to notice that they're just spouting The Popular Line, despite their long-term proven ugliness. Of course, I hope they're changing, but, um...Unlikely.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Ron. And I say that with no sense of self-righteousness. But I know men, because I ARE one! We will adopt whatever position we feel is going to get us in the least amount of hot water--especially with women.
ReplyDeleteI suspect there are a lot of Pinocchios in the old boys' clubs today!
ReplyDeleteExcept now they are hiding their long noses behind their face masks! :)
DeleteGood for him though especially when he is on the radio. Maybe more men pick up on being sensitive. No need for that kind of jokes of the old boys and if he still does it I will catch him out. Be afraid be very afraid ;)
ReplyDeleteHa ha...you're giving him the benefit of the doubt. The poem is a little more skeptical...
Deletethis had a lot of humor to it. hahaha...i found it funny, but hope no one gets offended by me. nice write!
ReplyDeleteMe...sometimes offensive...mostly not offended...
DeleteYes, all pretty words for the camera, behind the scenes still the same bar talk.
ReplyDeleteThe poem is a bit cynical in nature, but only to the degree that our sports guy has blocked out his own "old boy" tendencies to hop onto the #MeToo bandwagon out of a sense of political correctness.
DeleteYup, you hit the nail on the head here - a resonance of realit. Some are capable of change though, I'm sure and so we must believe... Similar with the Black Lives matter campaign, I think...
ReplyDeleteI tend to agree. We're all capable of change. Capable is the key word.
DeleteYes, the lines change with the need to be popular and many do not notice! An amusing poem with a wry tone.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Georgina!
DeleteI love the irony. No doubt there are any number of men waiting for the other shoe to fall!
ReplyDeleteOh, the war between the sexes...used to be able to think of it as a lighthearted sort of thing (Bobby Riggs and Billy Jean King) but today it seems to have turned deadly.
DeleteYep, put those sentiments into action, I say. Then I'll believe it.
ReplyDeleteToo many platitudes and not enough action...everywhere.
