YOURS DROOLY
There was a time when I
thought that I was gonna crap
out before the age of thirty
in some romantic James Dean
bullshit kind of thing
but now being to hell and gone
past that (and past the point
of caring 'bout most things
I cared about then)
I gotta kinda wonder if
live fast die young
might not have been
the better option
cuz the last thing
I ever wanted to be
was some decrepit old fool
who can't get up off the stool
but that's probably coming
then again I think about
how I would have missed
this lovely shit show
we've got here today
(I know I don't have to go into it)
and I'm kinda glad that I can be here to commiserate with you
and help you through it
in my own little way
so come here and put
your head on my shoulder
cuz it's a lot easier than me
trying to put my shoulder
on your head
Yours Truly,
Still Not Dead

ReplyDeletethoughts collide
I stand into this clutter
a day's mix
with thoughts of tomorrows
in the now
Nice. We're still standin'--like that Elton John song. All best to you for the holidays!
DeleteGlad you are still alive and kicking and getting to see the shit show. LOL You always bring a smile to my face!
ReplyDeleteYour words are like a full-body massage to me, Carrie!
DeleteLOL💞 It's great to have you amongst us. You always make me smile!💞☕
ReplyDeleteMany smiles back, Sanaa!
DeleteWhat fun. Love the title and the ending! The head shoulder thing really turned my head.
ReplyDeleteThanks Colleen! I suspect you were a head turner to begin with!
DeleteHA! I ALWAYS love your poems. This one really made me smile. I relate to every line and especially love the closing ones. It is a shit show. But I'm still glad we're here because it beats the alternative. Smiles.
ReplyDeleteStill along for the ride with ya, Sherry!
DeleteAh the voice of wisdom. Love the humour you wove into this. There’s still more life left- so enjoy!
ReplyDeleteYou're so right, Vivian. It's now or never.
DeleteI love this! Love the voice, the tone, the language, the sentiments, the humour, the culminating rhymes ... right from that perfect, tongue-in-cheek title. Glad you're still not dead.
ReplyDeleteYou're too kind, Rosemary! But I'll take it (smiles)
DeleteI have always dying young is overrated... after all there are advantages in being the spectator of the show
ReplyDeleteShit shows are fun to watch, long as we wear our raincoats and rain hats--lol
DeleteAs I grow older.. I keep thinking I am glad I have this time.. for better or worse. A lovely rumination.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your thoughts. Much appreciated!
DeleteFirst of all the accompanying picture is very funny!
ReplyDeleteYour poem is filled with humor but also lets one ponder about our ephemeral nature, our changing thoughts and behavior, our fear and dread of not being loved (your last stanza). You have penned it very beautifully!
Your comment is beautifully written. Thank you so much, and great to hear from you!
DeleteYou are always such a refreshing breath of fresh air! Love this.
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's hot air--lol
DeleteLife is a cow pie, friend Tim. But having said that ... manure is perfect to grow the rose garden that we were never promised ... smiles. Love, cat.
ReplyDeleteYou have your rose garden
Deleteby the sea
and those cow pies are cooling on the window sill
for you and for me
