WHEN IN ROME

You bloated pig
wallowing in the ooze
of your own excess
while that anthem rings
hollow
through every coliseum
across the land
so morbidly obese
you can't even stand for it
in decent fashion anymore
that's alright
don't bother
cuz  you've already shat upon
all you once held dear
(let's start with the word integrity)
but traded for a seat at the circus
clowns to the left
jokers to the right
hope you like
the freak show

bread and circuses

for the (m)asses

  2. The anthem does ring hollow....but the true America is the people - not what we see spoon fed to us on the news. (Horrible that one conglomerate can order their anchors to read their garbage, which the (m)asses are only too happy to believe.) Sigh. Argh. Things have to get better than this.

    1. If only the people were awake, Sherry. But they are hypnotized...mesmerized by the 3 ring circus.
Given too much power to The Ringmaster, who is now wading into the crowd with the whip once reserved only for the lions.

  3. If there is no change, it won't be for the want of your voice shouting loud and clear. May it be heard!

  5. Integrity and authenticity are outmoded concepts. Finding palatable 'feel good' ethic for the punters is the goal. No point in having gladitorial games with a half empty house. Bums On Seats is all important.I've had it with celebrity wolves posing as meek sheep.Don't mind me I 'm just having a rave. Put it down to the king tides we have here at the moment:)

  6. Not all of us are asleep, lying doen, rolling on our backs. Not all of us believe the hype.

  8. I feel sick already with the circus... I think I will leave Rome to itself... the empire is failing.

  9. So, so well done, Tim! Say it loud. Maybe the kids will help us turn it around. They are my heros in this ongoing sideshow.

  12. There is more to life than bread and circuses. I would list them for you but off hand I just can't think of any at the moment:)

  13. Well okay. You've put it right out there with this one. I can only hope that there are enough of us, not mesmerized by the three ring circus, that somehow we can recover from this nightmare.
What was it Gerald Ford said when he pardoned Nixon? "Our long national nightmare is over.".........Those words, not Nixon or Ford or any of the circus of that time that I do believe was minimal in compariston to today, like the Big Apple Circus in comparison to the Ringling Brothers, .... those words, would that we could say them soon....and if not soon, at least in 2020. sigh
