SAVED

With Real Toads--d'Verse Poets Pub

There is no way
you can talk to someone
who knows that they are "right"
and you are wrong
that they have cornered the market on truth
and that is the be all and end all of it
no more questions
mystery solved and
case closed
no matter how much reason
common sense
or logic you may use
you might as well
be talking up your dog's butt
for they will shake their heads
and smile
and pretend to listen
but all the while
their little brain is screaming
APOSTATE
and though you might feel that you
could accept them
in your live and let live way
it won't be returned
they won't consort with your kind
until you've drunk the Kool-Aid

narrow minds keep narrow circles

and my answer to the question
of have I been saved is
well, not from you,
so I guess the answer is no
anyhow
don't want any part of your
vindictive deity
cuz I've already met the one
who goes by the handle of  LOVE
(though, as I recall,  his given name is Fred)
and I wonder why it's never occurred
to you
that if one were exposed to such hellacious temperatures
for all eternity
that he would eventually acclimate to it
and it would just be like summertime in Phoenix...
no big deal

but no matter cuz
we need to see that glassy-eyed look
or...well...
Y'ALL CAN JEST GO TO HELL--
.hack...snort...giggle...

Footnote:
To finish this poem I must click on
"save"
I have done that and now it says
SAVED

HALLELUJAH !
and I'll be damned--

uh...I mean...
guess I won't be now

bye

  2. I. So. Love.This. Poem. Especially how we get saved by clicking on the button. Convenient, no? Hee hee. You are hilarious, my friend.

  3. I despise the self righteous, sanctimonious posture of the people whom you so well describe. They wear their ignorance and their desire to remain so too proudly. I'd like to click on "delete" on this kind of thinking or (more correctly) this non-thinking. As always, I enjoy your humor.

  6. I'm a follower of Jesus (the word "Christian" has been subverted by SOOOOO many assholes) and a pastor's wife (Congregational/UCC, open and affirming). I LOVED this poem. Truly, stick it to 'em, and screw anyone who says you're being judgmental, because, hell, they started it!

My sister is a Fundie who says I, my queer daughter (she says "lesbian" sounds like she immigrated) and my pastor husband and all "goin' to Hay-ll" for supporting and loving our kid. I told her I'd rather go to Hell and hang out with my friends than go to her stick-up-their-butt, sanitized Heaven. Hell is really on earth anyway, and she still thinks Jay-sus is a-comin' to raise up "her and Ed." And this woman has a college degree. Love your work! 1. Great poem! I was once a victim of attendance to main stream religion. When I started questioning their proclamations of ,God's love but no demonstration of it, it wasn't well received. I have since decorated the hand basket they gave me with peace signs and love stickers.

This is so true. Acceptance should be a two-way street but seldom is, and really, is it anyone's business whether the next person has been saved or not? Some people spend so much time worrying about other people's business, they forget to clean out their own closets.

  11. SUSIE: Questions are the mortal enemy of any established, entrenched institution.

FLIPSIDE: I guess I made that expression up, but wouldn't mind seeing it BECOME an expression.

    AIDZ: Glad to oblige!

KERRY: Thanks for another astute comment. The opposite of acceptance is fear.

  12. LOVE this write! My mind is always open for changing, for conversation, for debate, for dialogue and understanding...I have learned the hard way, that not all minds are like mine, and have penned many a poem as a result of those interactions...glad to see you working the pen with this...some are just not worth the effort!

  20. "narrow minds keep narrow circles"

So damned right! (I have come across those smug closed-mind bar-stewards- and if there is a God I would guess he is gutted by the evil they utter (in his name)...)

    So glad you're saved!
