STARS ON WATER

Friday Poetry Fest

We are lost in the darkness
the autumn constellations
like the sparkle of snow

Dreaming
drifting
as milk wagons from a bygone era
on nightbound roads
moving ceaselessly in search
of a vanished dawn

The sleeping forest
crisp and cold
a jewel in the moonlight

Night planes
spiraling stars
deer snorting in the underbrush

Atum spills his seed across the firmament
the great nebula of Andromeda
we need only believe in mysteries

Our campfire
like the summer
fades to glowing embers

Eternity so relentless
and yet so fleeting
springs and autumns flash by
slipping wordlessly away

And we
like stars on water
drifting seaward
In the awe-filled silence

  3. This is so beautiful, Timoteo, with the possible exception of the chop suey - (however the connection made is absolute perfection, sound-wise!) I love the dreamy quality....."and we, like stars on water, drifting seaward". So beautiful. One of my faves of yours.

  8. BRIAN,
I thought about: Whores driving milk wagons while eating chop suey...but nah!

    BUBBA,
True, one does not actually need to witness whores eating chop suey to register the audio connection to deer snorts...it's quite a tickling visual as well!

    SHERRY,
My good friend Sherry--thanks so much!

    JENNY,
You have to follow some hookers around until you see them go into a Chinese restaurant...

  14. I think this is a fabulous poem, but I have to admit, my brain did a flip-flop on the "whores eating chop suey" line. In one way, it seems totally out of place in a beautiful piece of poetry, but in another, it seems to give it a character much needed in our mundane "cerulean" world. If you get my drift. All that said, darn good write!

  21. Another damn good poem, Timo. We need only believe in mysteries, and even if we don't--there they are. I spend many sleepless hours under the stars, and you do start thinking this stuff. They seem to have their own dynamic going on, totally separate, yet graciously inviting us to receive their light. Whispering pines--they really do seem to. Excellent stuff.

  27. JENNY,
I used to play Santa at a pet store, and people would bring any kind of animal and the animals would sit on my lap...then their kids would sit on my lap, and it was a pretty unruly bunch! Sometimes they would fight like cats and dogs!

    PAT,
Glad you liked that...sometimes I can't help but say what's on my mind! What a concept!
