AND SO ON

No one is crazy
about a poem
that goes on
and on
and on
and on
and on
and on
and on
and so on
(you gotta get out there and slop the pigs!)

A poem should be

like a good fight with your girlfriend.

Say it succinctly

have it mean something
make it feel like a stab in the heart
and get out of there.

Come back later.

Approach cautiously

and take a peek
to see if "she" still looks friendly.

Then dress her up a little

and get ready
for her big debut with your friends!

  1. Ah.. yes a poem has to be succinct and to the point... though a fight with my girlfriend can go on and on... (I like the leaving part though)

  2. Yes! Good and fun analogy. I once wrote:
    I want a poem
I can live happily ever after with
    even if we fight

    I want a poem
    that will talk to me
    but one that won’t say
what it thinks I want to hear

    1. Put her away in a drawer, but don't forget which one it is!

  7. Love this! Yeah that really is what it's like, all around. Though I think the part about leaving and coming back must be learned. Whew!

    1. HA...yeah...there should be a mandatory cooling off period in both scenarios. (Eventually learned through trial--and sometimes costly--error.)

  8. Ah - you've given me another laugh! So nice to read from you again. Yes, I think fights should be like that - short - and the cooling, the coming back again and taking her out for a dance, a fancy night on the town - yes, I'd like that, too. :-) Thanks for sharing.
