ONE MORE DAY

In the shower
the soap slipped from my hand
it was a new bar
and heavy
and it struck my toe
and a sharp
intolerable pain
throbbed through that sucker
for 30 seconds or so
along with the sudden epiphany
that what we woefully lack
as a species
is the animal instinct
that might have forewarned me
(not to mention Janet Leigh)
to steer clear of the shower
'stead of standing there
clueless
and letting it happen
(as with most things that happen)
cuz ya know
I'd have been okay
with being dirty for one more day
but we never know
so
we stand there
proverbial lambs off to slaughter
looking like Goofy
at Disneyland
and let it happen

  1. I love the image of us standing there "looking like Goofy", letting it all happen. This made me smile, Timo.

  4. __During a (now, long ago) shower, I lost a -very thin- layer of soap. Now I meld all the -thins- into one larger bar._m

    1. Very economical move, Doug. (I'm wondering where that thin sliver of soap disappeared to...;))

  5. OTOH, who's to say if you had waited till tomorrow, you might not have slipped and cracked your skull open??? Is the shower half-full or half empty? ;_) Love this--enjoyed both the metaphor and the humor.

    1. Half full or half empty depends on who else is in there, I guess ;)

  10. You say that like there's an alternative to just letting it all happen.
