LOVE POEM
Always hated fukken Valentine's Day
cuz you had to git all dressed up
and show up wit a box of chocolates
under youse arm and
take her out to dinner
and da whole bit
when what you really wanted to do
was stay home and watch da basketball game
in your skivvies
and to make matters worse
a couple weeks later
she ain't even wit you no mo!!!
what kinda deal is dat?
think I got out just in time man
what wit dis war between da sexes
dat's raging today
HEY
I ain't gonna study war no more
so why would I need
some old battle-axe around???
now I be watchin' da game
and poppin' dem yummy chocolates
into my own face
finally catchin' on
finally wakin' up
to da realization
at long long last
just how sweet life can be...
when I'm in love wit me

Oh yes :) first and foremost love yourself!💖
ReplyDeleteYes! And all cats! Thanks, Sanaa!
DeleteI think it's a better way to eat the chocolate yourself
ReplyDeleteLovers are like a box of chocolates...some you choose will be mostly nuts!
DeleteYou've found the silver lining in the lead grey clouds.
ReplyDeleteLove and chocolate are freaking delicious when we share them without ourselves.
ReplyDeleteSharing those chocolates on Valentine's...here's one for me...here's one for me...here's another one for me...
Delete... settle down, lil white horse ... smiles ... cat.
ReplyDeleteha ha...yes, it must be the coffee
DeleteLoved it. I got married so I wouldn't pine each year 'cos I hadn't received any Valentine cards. Then I got one every year after that but dunno who it was from!
ReplyDeleteThat's as good a reason as any to get married :)
DeleteOh, I hear you! Focusing on myself and my cat these days, too. (And of course chocolate.)
ReplyDeleteFor those who are self-reliant and create their own dopamine!
DeleteThis is hilarious!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sara!
Deleteat long long last

Do one's own thing and not a bother from anyone. Freedom to enjoy all the more. Very true Timoteo!
Hank
You do understand. Thanks, Hank!
DeleteI don't care a fig or feather for chocolates and hearts. I'd rather watch a game than slip through syrup. I guess that is why I've been married 47 years. :)
ReplyDeleteThere's something to be said for longevity, Susie! It helps if both of you are into basketball--lol
DeleteLol......i love it. I, too, love doing my own thing. Valentines' day's dark side is the theme at Toads. This poem certainly fits.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sherry. Me and Darth...we're both from the dark side. In fact, he is my FATHER!
DeleteThere's something to be said to knowing yourself well, and being unapologetic about who you are.
ReplyDeleteSo true, Rommy. I'd only be apologizing to myself anyway, and myself doesn't care who I am :)
DeleteI knew you would have a nice twist in the end! Chocolates and your favorite tv show... not a bad way to spend the evening.
ReplyDeleteYou're getting to know me well--lol
DeleteChocolates and a Duke basketball game - heaven!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you--except it's the Arizona Wildcats!
DeletePlease .. SOMEONE .. help me stop laughing! It's da pits.
ReplyDeleteHa ha...don't stop...don't stop...
DeleteGave me some giggles this one (✿◠‿◠)
ReplyDeletemuch love...
That warms my heart, Gillena!
DeleteI be watchin' them thar Ducks.
ReplyDeleteYa, dem ducks might steal my chocolates.
DeleteGreat poem! A little light humor was in order!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much. I'd call it "serio-comic"
DeleteThere are a lot of us doing that these days, LOL. This made me grin.
ReplyDeleteHey Sherry, I know you're right there with me on a lot of things, like this!
ReplyDeleteI can't even treat myself to valentine chocolate...It doesn't play well with my stomach. I've never been one to give much attention to Valentine's Day..give me something on an off Tuesday and we'll talk. :)
ReplyDeleteLOL SUSIE!
DeleteI loved the close - it made me laugh - and of course all your words that went before.
ReplyDeleteCheers for bringing a smile to my face.
Anna :o]
Thanks. Just getting my inner Grinch on!
DeleteExcellently funny.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. Good to see you.
DeleteLove this, especially that great ending.
ReplyDeleteThanks. When all the rest of them run away, we can still wrap our arms around our own shoulders.
