SHE

She superimposes his face
upon her own demons
cuz it ain't easy to beat the shit
out of a nameless, faceless entity,
and a punching bag
is always more therapeutic
when it's someone you love.

She knows

that he will absorb the blows--
bounce back grinning
to a standing eight count,
no worse for the wear.
Knowing in his knightly heart
what she still struggles to comprehend.

That the Devil made her do it.

  4. I have been spared to spar a woman like that.. but I can see it happening.. the chameleon image is interesting to ponder. Like a skin of innocence

  5. A few pieces of advice, Mr Catnip:
1.)Always, remember your wedding anniversary date.
    2.)Don't fart so much.
3.)Always, always do wash your hands after you pee ...
... and she will love you forever ...

    Smiles and purrs,cat.

    1. Now there's some lovely homespun advice! But long as you "don't git none on ya" and you took a shower, there'll be nothing on your hands you should have to wash off :) (Yeah, it's just like any other part of your body, only tucked away for safe keeping!)

  9. Ah, the devil woman - ideal choice. Classic poetic archetype, whether she's crossed your path or not!!

  10. Wow..that drew me in quick with those first two lines. It is difficult dealing with those who have their own inner demons, metaphorically speaking as I assume this poem was intended.....or not (eeks).

    1. We all have our demons, many just prefer to inhabit the female form.

  13. Well I have a lot to say about this (pages) but as I am time poor...just let me say this
    YOU
    ARE
    WRONG

Now go write out 100 times

Women are absolutely wonderful and any tongue lashing that I receive from one of them is utterly deserved. In fact, I am so impossible that I would try the patience of a saint.

  14. This is a very interesting perspective on abusive relationships - so often the male is cast in the antagonistic role.

    1. True...though I think men are much less likely to report domestic abuse than women due to not wanting to seem less "macho." The poem, however, is speaking primarily to verbal abuse.
