  1. This paints a perfect contrast between America and the hungry nations. There is a disheartening lack of social justice on this planet.

  2. sure was a fun read; even though there are serious layers there in

    much love...

  3. I find those hot dog eating (or any other eating contest, really) too gruesome to watch. I like how you use humor to diffuse, or rather -- raise -- the issue. There is truth in it, maybe another reason why I find such contests hard to look at. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Thanks, Stacie. Yes, some things should never be displayed in public, for numerous reasons.

  4. I kind of Heard America from West Side Story in the background... a bit of the same sentiment but more into obscene obesity... now I see a fat cat dancing for some reason... wonderful sarcasm here..

  9. What is equally sad and obscene is that there are those even in America who don't have anything to eat and yet the fat cats walk right on by on the way to the hot dog eating contest. There is no good reason for hunger anywhere in our world, but greed and selfishness abound and so hunger does, too.

  10. Spot on, Linda! And as you have observed, "fat cat" has a double meaning here. As for those who are literally obese, many are not even over eating, it's WHAT they are eating--lots of fast food crap, soda, etc. that is packing on the weight.

  12. Really effective write, Timoteo. It hurts me to see so much obesity in my country and the kids that no longer play outside but sit glued to the TV or video games. And any of those food eating competitions sicken me to watch. Humor is a great way to address issues.

  14. Thank goodness this is just a slice of America... and I might add many places around the world. Satirical poetry you do quite well!

  15. Foot wastage vs. hunger is a much needed discussion. Timely satire.

    1. A good discussion, yes. In America, we can be so arrogant and thoughtless about these kind of things.

  16. A light-hearted approach to a serious subject. It is disgusting when food is wasted on nonsense while others starve. As far as junk food goes, it always amazes me how so many buy the latest garbage just because it's new....and actually eat it.

  17. Humorous on one level and decidedly not so on the other. I really enjoyed how deftly you did this.

  18. Such a contrast between the haves (too much), and the have nots. We in the West - we don't know when we have it good, and so we abuse it.

    1. Yes, when you think about it, what message is an eating contest sending to the rest of the world?
