I had a coupon
for some Grey Poupon
but the wind snatched it
and whisked it away
now I spend my day
stopping strangers
and passersby
asking...WHY???
They just shake their heads
and walk away
but one day
soon
they will understand
that what they just saw
was the piteous onset
of the final straw
LOVED that. Now the question -- was it the "last straw" for you -- just before you go stark raving mad, or for the world and the wind's mischievousness will soon become random violence for everyone?
ReplyDeleteThe last straw for me, but everyone goes stark raving mad on their own timetable, so eventually everyone will be the same (smiles)
Deletei have learned that asking that why question is pretty futile business but def. once in the same position they will understand
ReplyDeleteThe worst part is thinking that someone else found that coupon, and used it, and here I sit...mustardless.
DeleteThis made me smile - in recognition of that final straw. I so know the feeling, kiddo. Hang in there, maybe the wind will blow it back your way. Smiles.
ReplyDeleteThe answer is blowin' in the wind
Delete"Reality" TV drama, a minimal loss leads to devastation, Here, you point to that triviality.
ReplyDelete__What of a deeper loss? Two coupons? Smiles_! _m
By the way...I hate to ask...but do you have any Grey Poupon???
DeleteNope.
Delete__I prefer the old, standard class stuff__ Gulden's__ (dark, ) in a real glass jar. :<))
Grey Poupon tastes well and rhymes well with coupon...only if that Why wasn't there :D

ReplyDeleteWhy? Oh why?
DeleteLoved the closing lines :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sanaa!
DeleteThere is something at once both silly and sinister in this. That Grey Poupon commercial always makes people laugh. But the ominous not of the last two lines makes me wonder what the result of that last straw gone will be.
ReplyDeleteInsightful comment, Rommy...I think you walked right into my mind.
Deletepiteous onset of the final straw... why indeed! A lovely poem...

DeleteOh man, I feel like I've reached this point, over and over. What? THAT AIN'T MUSTARD BABY. And this is the last straw!!!
ReplyDeleteToday is a new day..ha ha...get in there and put a little mustard on it, baby!
DeleteHa! You present a finely tuned portrait of the aging process, and excellent play on words. Great fun to read.
