IN PRAISE OF SUNSHINE

The day
dawns grey
like all the older women
you see at the market
who have cut their hair
so short and ugly
for the sake of convenience
having tossed in the towel
on the notion of ever attracting a man again

it doesn't need to be
that cut and dried
someone told you
this is how you have to act
to act your age
sold you a bill of goods
and you bought it
without looking at the price
all prim and proper
and by the book
so many people
here
there
and everywhere
just trying to do the right thing
and fit into someone else's plan
for a world
that's as bland
as an old grey day
but hey
it's no coincidence that back in the day
when people freed their minds
their hair got longer...

LET THE SUNSHINE IN!!!

  2. Such irreverence for traditional beliefs. Right up there with the long-haired free minds sporting sunshine in their hair!

  4. Not sure if this is an ode to summer or mini-rant against little old ladies!

    ;-)

  5. KERRY: It is only a rant against mindless conformity! The little old ladies merely provided one example.

  8. I had to laugh while reading this especially as I've been debating about cutting my hair short. :)

  9. I suppose I agree with you at some level Timoteo. I like the carefree nature of short hair, but got mine cut like Miley Cyrus'. It ROCKS!

  10. heh. my hair is pretty short...maybe my mind needs a bit more freeing...
and i would much rather have an original thought that follow what someone else wants for me any way

  13. Timo, you are speaking right to my heart and I love it! In town, I think the same thing - people look askance at my crazy hair - but when I meet other older women with FREE hair - and spirits! - we always smile at each other with our secret knowing.
